MLK Jr on Science

Last night I came across this quote from Martin Luther King Jr.

"Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men."

Is this true?

A Sunday Morning at the Laundry Mat

I spent most of yesterday morning at the laundry mat. When I first got there I was kind of like "Damn". I've worked consistently for the past 13 years (never out of work longer than 3 months) and I still don't live in a place with a washer and dryer. What is up with that?

I felt less beligerent after I got my clothes into the washer and sat down with a machiatto and a bagel. A lot of caffine and some carbs always settle my mood. The irony was that as I was in the patio just outside "my" laundry mat reading my trashy grocery store magazine and listening to Nelly Furtado play on my old-school Sony portable cd player, I got off my yuppie high horse and recognized the pleasure of not having a laundry machine at my apartment.

With or without that damn machine of convenience I freakin' LOVE my apartment, so really there is not that much love loss. I realized if I didn't have to leave my apartment to wash my clothes I would have locked myself into the place for the entire morning. I wouldn't have enjoyed the sun, the fresh (well, sort of fresh - a lot of cars go by) air, and the interesting characters that passed through.

At least I don't have to go to the river to bash my lycra against the rocks to get it clean...

Because I Am Feeling Impatient

Marie's newest tatoo. I'm so jealous! Makes me want to get another.

Wednesday

It's hump-day.

Jammed to some Nelly Furtado this morning; grabbed a cup of coffee; and am READY TO GO. ...Go somewhere other than work today. The sun is shining and am feeling much to rested to sit at this computer all day.

Oh, well. There are things to do. GHC is around the corner and I want it to be a throw-down of female, computing brilliance. So I'm putting in my hours and will play hookie some other day.

On a totally different note, I'm feelin' Justin Timberlake's new song SexyBack. I'm slightly embarassed because after all he is In Sync's lead singer. I avoided the 90's boyband thing. I got my fill in junior high school with the New Kids on the Block.

Rock on...

A Moment of Reflection

I am often surprised by the speed of my life. Nothing ever seems to slow down or settle down.

I've been on the go since I was 14. Back then it was school, running, homework, housework, and (later) a part-time job. Now its momma-work, work-work, housework, and miscellaneous-adult-responsiblity-work. There are always 100 things on my to-do list. In all fairness 10 things get checked off by the end of each day. But as we all know, work begets work and so I add another 10 items to the list each morning when I wake....so, things never seem quite settled.

I suppose I am used to the ebb and flow of stress. I'm always motivated by knowing I will soon encounter moments of pure joy and accomplishment. They are great payment for working hard.

I ran into this quote on the web. Supposedly, its a French proverb:

"Hope is the dream of a soul awake."

Like most blog entries I don't really know what my point is. All I know is, con un cafecito in hand, I need to get on with my day. I have lots to accomplish today.

RAP MASH returned

Did you ever play RAP MASH (or just MASH) as a kid? I did.

Rich
Average
Poor

Mansion
Apartment
Shack
House

The other day someone put my name into a game and before I knew it I was married off with a dog, 1000 children and a boring honeymoon in California.

I would prefer someone did a single's version of that game:

Ready to start paying off school loans
Already paid off school loans
Paying school loans, are you crazy? I still have 14 more months of forebearance!

My home is my santuary
Always ready to party
See me when I'm not working
Happy. It's that simple.
